“Be Known by Your Love, Not Your Judgment”

(Why Jesus never told us to be the sin police)

Yes, the Bible Allows Loving Correction—But Only in Context

Galatians 6:1 — “If anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness…”

→ Correction is for believers, and it must be done gently, humbly, and with restoration in mind.

Matthew 18:15 — “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone…”

→ Not gossip, not public shame—just private accountability.

But Scripture Strongly Warns Against Hypocritical Judgment

Matthew 7:1-5 — “Judge not, that you be not judged… You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye…”

→ We’re not called to judge like we’re sinless. We’re not.

Romans 2:1 — “In passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.”

→ Judging others while hiding your own sin? That’s not righteousness. That’s hypocrisy.

1 Corinthians 5:12-13 — “What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? God will judge those outside.”

→ We’re not supposed to judge unbelievers. That’s God’s role—not ours.

If We All Judged Each Other Constantly, It Would Never End

If we really started calling out every sin, none of us would be standing:

“Oh, you cursed yesterday.”

“Well, you looked at porn last week.”

“You yelled at your kids.”

“You drank too much.”

“You were prideful.”

“You lied.”

“You gossiped.”

“You judged me.”

It would never stop. Because we all fall short—every single day.

Some of us are just more honest about our mess. Others hide their skeletons better.

But is that really fair? Is the loud sinner worse than the one who hides in the shadows?

Romans 3:23 — “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

So What Should Define Us?

John 13:35 — “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Matthew 5:14-16 — “You are the light of the world… Let your light shine before others, so they may see your good works and glorify your Father…”

Matthew 7:16 — “You will recognize them by their fruits.”

Let’s get real: Jesus never said,

“You’ll know them by how well they point out everyone else’s flaws.”

He said,

“You’ll know them by their love.”

The Final Word: Choose Love, Not Judgment

We’re all broken. We’re all being shaped.

We don’t need more sin counters. We need more grace givers.

Correct if you must—but only with love, gentleness, and humility.

And always ask yourself: Is my light shining, or is my judgment blinding someone from Jesus?
